Premier League:
"Get On With The Game" Premier League Chairmen, managers and players today joined together to launch 'GET ON WITH THE GAME'. 'Get On With The Game' is a programme that sees them sign up to Charters detailing standards of acceptable behaviour; Captains given enhanced responsibilities in respect to their relationship with referees and managing their team mates; the removal of all TV monitors from around technical areas and the dugouts; and the appointment of refereeing experts by BSkyB, the BBC and Setanta. Premier League Chief Executive, Richard Scudamore, said: "Premier League clubs and players do so much to inspire and excite - generally fans and the media are talking about the great goals and moments of skill in the Barclays Premier League. "At times though, and this came into sharp public focus last season, incidents crop up where the mark is overstepped and player and manager behaviour can become unacceptable. "The referees have a responsibility too. In forging better relationships with team captains, and the other players and by communicating their decisions in the right way, it will help the players and that will make the game better for everyone - fans included. "Our message is clear and straightforward - it comes with one voice from the Chairmen, managers and the players - let's Get On With The Game." About 'Get On With The Game' TEAM SHEET EXCHANGE As part of the PGMO's directives for the coming season, the Team Captains and senior coaching staff member MUST be present at the exchange of team sheets in advance of every Barclays Premier League fixture. This opportunity will be used in productively developing the relationship between the Referee and the Team Captain. PGMO is calling on its Referees to work openly with the Team Captains to help manage the game by seeking their cooperation in helping deal with players in danger of receiving formal sanctions because of their behaviour. TECHNICAL AREA - TV MONITORS The behaviour of occupants of the Technical Area in persistently appealing to the Fourth Official and the other Match Officials is a cause for concern. To help combat this, the presence and use of TV monitors in and around the Technical Area is now forbidden at Premier League fixtures, a Rule change agreed at the Premier League AGM. CHARTERS In addition to the Chairmen's Charter which all Club Chairmen/Chief Executives signed at the Premier League AGM, Premier League Club Managers and Captains will also sign their relevant Charters in advance of the 2008/09 Barclays Premier League Season. The Charters reiterate the importance of the shared responsibility at all levels of the Premier League game. 'GET ON WITH THE GAME' FLAG As FIFA and UEFA use their 'Fair Play' flag, The Premier League will introduce a flag which will lead the teams onto the pitch before every Barclays Premier League fixture this season. FAIR PLAY HANDSHAKE As last season, the teams and Match Officials will conduct the official fair play handshake before every Barclays Premier League fixture this season. During the handshake, the Official Premier League Anthem will play to signify the occasion. BSKYB,
SETANTA AND BBC REFEREEING EXPERTSBSkyB, the BBC and Setanta have engaged former PGMOL Select Group Referees Dermot Gallagher (left), Paul Durkin and PGMO General Manager Keith Hackett respectively, to join their Premier League football teams to provide insight into Referees' decisions and views.
